Liliana Martínez Scarpellini, native to Bogotá (Colombia), is Director of Education at Rayuela. She began teaching at age 18 years old while completing her degree in Philology and Languages in both English and Spanish. She attended New York University to study translation and her love for writing and teaching grew stronger every day. In 1996 she pursued a journalism career at Hunter College and after graduation started at Hoy Newspaper, the largest Spanish newspaper at that time in New York city. Three years ago she started with a Spanish Immersion Program in Pasadena where children learn the language of Cervantes through an innovative and alternative method where the power of knowledge is achieved through fun and the love for learning. Today she resides in Pasadena with her husband and two beautiful bilingual children, Federico and Bronte. Mother, journalist, teacher, translator and education advocate.
