Francesca discovered in 2009 that the once beautiful Lake Atitlan of Guatemala where she was baptized and her grandparents lived had been overrun by blue green algae. Watching a new generation of children collect the contaminated water Francesca knew she had to take action. NASA had deemed Lake Atitlan as one of the worst natural disasters to ever occur and so severe that contamination can be viewed from space.

In response Francesca launched her fashion company Ix Style that sells huaraches sandals, bags and jewelry all made by Mayan artisans near Lake Atitlan. Ix is the Mayan word for water, and with every purchase Ix donates clean drinking water to children in Guatemala near Lake Atitlan where Francesca's family is from.
